Let's get started!
  • Chito-Ryu is a traditional Japanese style of karate with a direct and unbroken lineage going back generations. It combines effective self-defence skills with a focus on discipline, respect, and personal growth — making it a great choice for students of all ages.

  • At BrisKarate, children can begin as young as 5 in our Little Champions program. We also have classes for older kids, teens, and adults — so the whole family can train together.

  • Not at all! Our classes are designed for all levels, from beginners through to advanced students. You’ll build fitness, strength, and coordination as you go, at a pace that’s appropriate to you.

  • We are located in Stafford, approximately 8km north of the city, between the suburbs of Everton Park, Kedron, Alderley, Enoggera, Grange, Gordon Park and Stafford Heights.

We train at The Community Place, 33 Teevan Street, Stafford - just near Stafford and Appleby Roads. The dojo is easy to get to and there is ample dedicated and street parking, making it easy for families to fit training into their busy schedules.

  • Yes. Classes are always run with safety as the top priority. Kids learn techniques step by step in a controlled environment, building confidence and skills in a safe and positive way.

  • Most students start with 1–2 classes a week, depending on their age and schedule. The more regularly you train, the faster you’ll progress, but consistency is what matters most.

  • There are no shortcuts in Chito-Ryu. Earning a black belt takes many years of consistent training and dedication. Each belt along the way is a milestone to be celebrated because it represents real growth and achievement.

  • Comfortable clothing like a t-shirt and shorts or track pants is perfect for your free trial! Anything that you can move easily and feel comfortable in is perfect.

  • Absolutely! We offer family classes where children and parents can share the journey, support each other, and grow together on the floor.

  • Karate helps students develop focus, discipline, confidence, and resilience — qualities that carry into school, work, and everyday life. Parents often notice improvements in behaviour, attention, and self-belief.

  • Not at all — competition is completely optional at BrisKarate. Many students choose to train purely for fitness, confidence, and personal growth.

That said, we find tournaments can be a great opportunity for those who want to challenge themselves. Stepping onto the competition floor helps students test their skills, build self confidence, and discover just how much they’re capable of when they push past nerves and give their best effort. Win or lose, every tournament experience is about learning, growing, and celebrating progress.
